Foster Terms & Conditions

Highlighted Policies

  • Foster animals must not be taken to off-lead areas, even if they are muzzled or on a lead, due to safety risks.

  • Foster carers have the first option to adopt their foster animal but are not automatically approved for adoption.

  • If an adoption application progresses to the meet-and-greet stage before the foster carer expresses interest, that application will take precedence.

  • All adopters must meet Rescues4Pets' standard adoption requirements and follow the complete adoption application process.

  • No payment plans are accepted; adoption fees must be paid in full within 24 hours of approval.

  • Adoption trial periods are strictly 14 days (2 weeks) from the date the animal moves to the adopter.

  • Abusive, threatening, or manipulative behaviour towards volunteers or representatives of Rescues4Pets will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

  • All decisions made by Rescues4Pets are final and based on comprehensive policies established by the management committee.

By submitting an application to foster with Rescues4Pets Inc (hereinafter referred to as Rescues4Pets), you acknowledge and agree to adhere to the following terms and conditions:

General Foster Care Conditions

  1. Animal Ownership: All animals in foster care remain the property of Rescues4Pets.

  2. Application Process: Submission of a foster application does not guarantee approval. Applications are assessed based on eligibility criteria determined by the management committee.

  3. Animal Removal: Rescues4Pets reserves the right to remove a foster animal from a carer's home if deemed necessary. Non-compliance with a reasonable request to return an animal will result in the animal being reported as stolen to the relevant authorities.

  4. Temporary Nature of Foster Care: Foster arrangements are temporary. Animals must be returned to Rescues4Pets if unsuitable for the carer or their property.

  5. Provision of Care: Foster carers are responsible for providing food, bedding, enrichment, and regular parasite treatments. Rescues4Pets may assist with these supplies based on available donations.

  6. Veterinary Care:

    • Foster carers must notify Rescues4Pets of any veterinary needs and use an endorsed vet unless written approval is given for an alternative.

    • In emergencies, carers may seek immediate treatment but must notify Rescues4Pets as soon as possible. Costs for non-approved treatments will not be reimbursed.

    • Foster carers must attend mandatory vet appointments for procedures like desexing, microchipping, and vaccinations.

  7. Site Visits and Inspections: Rescues4Pets may request photographs or conduct site visits to ensure suitability.

  8. Lost or Impounded Animals: Any loss or impoundment of a foster animal must be reported immediately to Rescues4Pets, the Queensland Lost Pet Register, and relevant authorities.

  9. Liability: Foster carers are responsible for any damage or injury caused by their foster animal.

  10. Behavioural Concerns: Behavioural issues must be reported promptly. Rescues4Pets will provide guidance or arrange professional support where needed.

  11. Safety and Containment: Foster animals must reside at the approved address and be contained securely when unsupervised.

Specific Policies and Responsibilities

  1. Breed-Specific Regulations: Foster carers of greyhounds or breed-restricted animals must comply with relevant laws.

  2. Humane Training: Only safe and humane training methods and equipment are permitted. Use of choke chains, prong collars, or tethering is strictly prohibited.

  3. Housing and Care Standards:

    • Foster animals must be kept indoors at night and have shaded outdoor access during the day.

    • Adequate water and shelter must always be provided.

  4. Breeding Prohibition: Under no circumstances are foster animals to be bred. Foster carers must take precautions to prevent mating, especially for animals not yet desexed.

  5. Activity Restrictions: Foster animals must not be used for hunting, pigging, or other high-risk activities.

Adoption by Foster Carers

  1. Foster carers must notify Rescues4Pets of their intent to adopt before any external adoption applications are received.

  2. The foster period counts towards the adoption trial period (e.g., 6 days in foster care leaves an 8-day trial).

  3. Adoption fees must be paid within 48 hours of approval.

  4. Once a foster carer decides to adopt, their Foster Application becomes their Adoption Application and is subject to Adoption Terms and Conditions.

Conduct and Communication

  1. Foster carers must interact with Rescues4Pets representatives respectfully. Breaches may result in termination of the foster arrangement and reporting to authorities.

  2. Rescues4Pets decisions regarding fostering arrangements are final and made in the best interests of the animals.

Indemnity

By fostering with Rescues4Pets, you release the organisation, its volunteers, and representatives from liability for any damage, injury, or loss arising from fostering activities.
